hello. [26 Aug 2004|06:05pm]

[ mood | hungry ]

Sorry to be annoying by posting very often.

Is anyone going to this parade for the girl who won the silver medal in the Olympics? It's this saturday. I'm not sure what time to be there either but Ms. M was discussing it at the last band rehersal.

Question... [22 Aug 2004|07:37pm]

Ok, I just realized that I can't find my Band newsletter ^_^; From what I remember I think it said what music to bring or music were playing. I know its the music for the half-time show obviously.

But does anyone know the list of all of the music that we need to be prepared for tomorrow? I don't want to look dumb if I'm missing pieces of music.

summer rehersals. aren't they fun? [22 Aug 2004|02:28am]

Here are the days we lucky people get to go practice!

August 23: 9-11, inside
August 25: 9-11, inside
August 27: 9-11, inside

August 28: 12-2, outside
August 29: 12-2, outside

August 30: 9-12, outside
August 31: 9-12, outside
September 1:9-12, outside

Edit @1:08pm Fixed times?

For the outside ones, you should probably wear sunscreen. :P Since we -will- be out there around noon.. --; Ah well.

And hey, who wants to write about the community on the chalkboard in the room? I think it'd be a halfway decent way to get some more people to join, especially like the new freshmen and sophmores, since there aren't any here, and more of the upperclassmen also.

[And yes, I do know it's late and I'm posting on the BAND community of all places, but I'm not planning on going to bed for a while and I was just reminded of these. *shrug*]

ATTENTION: L.J. BAND STUDENTS!!!!!! [11 Aug 2004|03:05am]

[ mood | determined ]

I noticed in today's issue as far as friendwise. The issue of band has come up. Hmm, people must brought it up because practice is coming soon and the school year is approaching.

The Good: It seems that there are some people in band who still have pride. I dont know if anyone realized this. But from looking at the band survey, which was recently posted. Despite all the complaining in it. It does show a good point. It shows the motivation that we really want our band better and that were willing to do anything. I think that's GREAT! We seem very optimistic. I think if the whhs band community team up and just talk with Ms. M about what can be better. There is room for improvement. I think this year is going to be better than last year. Since things have fallen apart it also seems that its bringing some of our band members closer together as far as helping the band out.

The Bad: I don't think anyone realize that we have the 1st amendment: Freedom of SPEECH, press, assembly, etc. If we want things done. We need to speak up to Ms. M and that seems to be the number one problem. I think Michelle stated a good point.

"I think she will listen if more than 1 person, like a group of people, said that to her. Danielle (her sister) said on the band trip that when you want to tell her something you cant sugar coat it or anything, you have to be very BLUNT to her. and if you dont like it and wont say anything to her about it then dont complain about it." -Mishy

Um.... You heard it from Ms. M's sister. We are a group. For all you people who complain about Ms. M not listening. Well usually because 1) people dont tell her, therefore nothing will be accomplished. 2) You need more than one person to make a difference. I noticed a lot of people complained to her about problems in the past. A majority of the time it's because only one individual responded a problem/suggestion. It is usually the case that people get mad because she didn't listen to them. You need more people to get it through her head... you know. I forgot to mention, Speak up to her in a appropriate manner. Basically what I'm trying to say is just don't be a bitch or rude to her.

She has to put up with 200 somthing kids and shes not going to remember an issue from just one person. Speak up! 3) Not only that, you have to work hard to get what you want. With the car-wash. If you want a new uniform besides new ones that are the same ones. You have to show up to these things. The more the merrier. If we make a lot of money we can be successful. So there are some things Ms. M needs to take part on and some things we need to take part on.

P.S. sry guys, I don't mean to sound...demanding!?! or w/e you would call it. I'm just trying to stress to you guys, that if you really think somthing needs to get it done. Just tell her. I don't think she's going to bite.

I am done with my "Martin Luther King" speech.

How do we do it? ......With PRIDE!.....HOW!!!......With PRIDE!

Band Pride<3

Summer Band rehearsals [10 Aug 2004|01:03am]

Friday 8/27
(9 a.m.- 11 a.m.)

Speaking of old journal entries...Collapse )

[07 Aug 2004|09:11pm]

I think that the rules are unreasonable. Even miss m. said herself last year that we all contribute a lot of time and effort into this band, so now she gives us more to do? She said she wanted to do everything that she could to encourage new people to join band, and this really isn't helping that to happen. In fact, i think that it's driving people away.

Also, people have jobs. I have to work during the week, and I'm sure many other people do too. And I work nights too, so I wouldn't be able to run to all these extra things too that we need to attend. i can't keep asking my boss for time off, i'll get fired. There's only 4 of us there. Only 3 to work nights and weekends.

I disagree with the term papers too. Band has always been strictly a performace class. Not an academic type.

I strongly disagree with only 3 unexcused absences a year. The unexcused is OK because i think that you should always have a reason, but I for one get bad headaches, and I had to miss a few practices this past year because of that. I also have many doctors appointments for numerous reasons, and I have a job, and other members of my family who are very sick. I'm sure i'm not the only one who will have problems here.

Reply to Tiffy [07 Aug 2004|08:41pm]

i am going to change this post a little bit because ive thought about it and some of my opinions changed

i think the going to performances thing isnt a bad thing, its just going to be a pain in the ass sometimes.. but it is to support the other clubs. it makes us look better by doing this stuff, and maybe if others see us doing it, it may be a requirement for other organizations to help support us!

i dont really care about the paper. its not going to be a big scarey essay or anything, and if you think it is then your retarded.

the 2 days a week thing for extendeds arent bad either. the show is going to be a little tricky, so it'd be best if we did have more! besides, we wont be on the field everytime, and the more time spent on it in the beginning the sooner we can just start working on christmas music. besides, its only till 2:30. i think everyone will survive.

and for the 3 excused, 0 unexcused absenses i think that is good. a lot of kids blew off band last year, for the practices and some games. if they are going to blow off band then they will pay for it in their grade. and some people would always tell ms m they cant come because __insert excuse here___, and the same people will do it over and over. by having a max of 3 excused, then maybe more people will start showing up for practices and games.

i hope this made sense.. im a horrible writer. lol

okay, two things; [07 Aug 2004|07:38pm]

Two things;

1: Advertise this. Make this community un-dead, please? I know you people know of other people in band/colorguard, bug them until they join. Please? :P

2: The new Band Rules in the newsletter thing, what's everyone's take on these?
If anyone missed them in the newsletter or didn't get theirs yet, here's basically what it says:
-Rehersal is 2 days afterschool instead of 1
-3 excused, 0 unexcused absenses until they affect your grade;
-Midterm and final will consist of a 3 page paper
-You're required to go to 3 musical performances at the school [Chorus, Ensembles, Jazz Band] and one play at the school. Afterwards you must submit your ticket, program, and a paragraph on it to Mrs. M for credit within a week.

I personally.. don't like these all that much. Especially the concerts thing, because I don't believe in spending money to go to something only for a class. Especially those plays, because don't those get expensive? There better be discounts or something. I also don't drive and my parents are NEVER around, so it's hard for me to even go.. Meh. --;

Any other takes?

[ mood | calm ]

Dammit, this community's dead, but let's try to wake it up a bit, eh? <.<

When's the first freshman rehersal thing? I got a call from Matt the other day saying "Wednesday", but thinking back on it, I wasn't sure if it was as in next week Wednesday [21st?] or as in tomorrow Wednesday [14th]. Is anyone sure?

It's -next- Wednesday [21st] from 12:30~2:30, at school. If anyone didn't hear.

We need to devise a plan that will..

1) Bring interest to the community
2) Find topic*s* of discussion

3) Make sure that the people who join will actually POST O.o

How about a question of the week?

Tiff, does it have to be band related?

Eh, who cares.

What is everyones plans for summah vacation??? *Besides the band tour =D*
